The Grass Is Borrowed Light

Power spent on being alive rather than staying alive: a park trench on the Moon where borrowed light feeds grass and a tree, and people in suits rest inside the machine.

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A long pressurized park trench on the airless Moon, seen from above at an angle, with a diagonal grid of grow-light panels and trusses overhead and a dark conifer-like tree growing through the grid at a conflicting angle. The trench floor is a band of green grass between grey walkway seams, with small faceless suited figures sitting, standing and walking along it. The lunar surface and starfield are visible beyond the trench mouth. No text or insignia appears.

The ISS Vegetable Production System has grown plants in orbit, and surface habitat concepts are studied, but a lunar park of this scale is speculation. Image: poweringspace.com. Artistic imagining.
