An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A ruled drawing in graphite line on a warm ivory field, built entirely from straight rules and circular arcs over a faint square construction grid that covers the page. At the right stands a relay spacecraft drawn in flat elevation: a short triangulated boom with a small equipment box slung beneath it, and four parabolic receiving dishes on slender struts, each a different size and each tilted to a different angle, one aimed up and off the top edge, two aimed out to the right, one aimed down toward the lower right. Into each dish runs a narrow bundle of three fine parallel rays that enters from beyond the frame and brightens as it nears the aperture. On the left face of the spacecraft is a tall transmitting plate divided into a grid of small ringed cells. From that plate a wide corridor of light runs dead horizontally across half the page, its upper and lower edges made of four close parallel rules that space apart as they move inward, its interior crossed by seven shallow arcs struck from the plate that widen apart as they travel. Where the corridor reaches the left edge, the heavy black curve of a planet's limb rises, ringed outside by a graded halo of fine arcs standing for the sun directly behind it. A rectangular receiving field of small ringed cells sits astride the limb where the corridor lands, its cells drawn darkest along the corridor's axis and fading above and below. The construction grid stops inside the corridor and inside the planet, so those two areas are bare paper and are the brightest things in the frame. Two thin page rules and one vertical rule frame the composition asymmetrically. Nothing is filled, and no text, lettering, numerals or insignia appear anywhere. The scale is diagrammatic rather than literal, and nothing shown exists.

2026-06-22 Flush to the Line

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A near black square, lit only from inside it. A long spacecraft crosses the middle of the frame on a diagonal, entering low on the left and climbing out at the upper right. At its tail sits a squat reactor drum with a small cluster of thruster bells behind it, and between the drum and the rest of the vehicle a narrow throat blazes white gold, throwing an elongated pool of warm light across the flat dark ground like a stage light. A short conical shadow shield stands forward of that throat, its reactor facing side brilliant and its forward side falling to shadow. Two glowing coolant lines run forward from the throat along a slim truss boom and into the roots of two radiator wings of deliberately unequal size and sweep, each wing a stack of separate flat panels raked back like trailing coat tails; the panels are white hot where they meet the boom and cool outward through gold and amber to a dark ember that sinks into the background at the tips. Behind the thrusters a soft gold column of exhaust streams away to the lower left in loose brushed filaments. Forward of the wings, far from the one light, the equipment bus, a slender instrument boom with a small pale sensor bead, and a strongly foreshortened high gain antenna dish mounted off axis on a short mast are almost pure silhouette, the dish carrying only a thin bright crescent along the edge that faces the reactor. Low in the bottom left corner the Sun is a small bright pin in a faint halo, far too distant to light anything. Scattered stars fill the dark. 2026-06-21 The Only Warmth

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A flat poster square in five reds. The field is brick red; across the bottom rises the huge vermilion curve of Venus, edged with a thin cream line of sunlit limb and crossed by two dark oxblood cloud bands. Scattered across the field are eighteen flat cream rectangles seen at varied tilts, each one a mirror carried on a short black boom with a small black equipment box behind it. Thirteen of them throw hard-edged tapering wedges of cream light inward, and all thirteen wedges converge on one point left of centre, where a compact black machine stands: a blocky hull, a bright vermilion circle of a boiler, a flat cream absorber plate turned to face the incoming light, and three black radiator fins fanned out behind. Three constant-width cream bands enter from the top edge and end on mirrors, showing where the sunlight comes from. Below the machine a boom points down and emits one straight vermilion lance with a cream core, which drops to a line of three cream lens-shaped aerostats hanging over the planet's cloud tops on black gondolas. 2026-06-20 The Second Sun

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. Warm-orange line-work on a near-black woven ground: a spinning black hole sits low and left, a true black disc ringed by a thin blazing rim, with its accretion disc running corner to corner as a broad band of drawn arcs and dashes, white hot on the approaching arm and sinking to dim ember on the receding one. A narrow truss ring, drawn as two fine concentric ellipses with rungs between them, is built into the disc and is interrupted where it passes behind the hole. A braided beam erupts from the rim of the shadow and climbs the opposite diagonal to the upper right corner. Five collector hoops of increasing size stand threaded on that beam, each a double ring with rungs, four stubs reaching in toward the beam and one hatched wedge vane on its rim, the vanes stepping round by a fixed angle from hoop to hoop; long struts tie the hoops into one tower and four legs carry it down to the ring in the disc. Gold cables sweep from the tower to a small works at the right, a hoop with its own vane, a hatched box and a fan of radiator fins. 2026-06-19 The Spin Pays Out

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A warm ivory paper ground carrying a torn-paper collage. A long spacecraft hull crosses the whole square from edge to edge, capped at the right by a solid dark wedge of a bow, its skin two deep charcoal-green bands. Inside, cut away, is a farm: eight bays wide by four decks tall, ruled by ten pale stanchions and one gold bar running the length of the ship just under the ceiling. A thin gold line drops down every stanchion and ends in a small gold nub beside each deck's lamp, and each lamp is a warm white bar that lays a pale flat wedge of light down over a tray of plants. The plants get bigger and darker from left to right, from small pale sprouts at the stern to tall deep green blades and heavy round heads at the bow, and one tray near the bow has been cut back to stubble. Along the bottom of the farm a dark lane carries a line of round green and amber produce forward and up a lift into a recessed bay at the bow, where six amber plates with hotter cores, one of them clay red, give off leaning white plumes. 2026-06-18 Its Own Long Noon

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark plum-black square lit entirely from within by a curtain of erupting light. Along the bottom, the black curve of a small icy moon rises against a soft rose haze, and from its limb five geysers fan upward and outward across the whole frame, each one built of nested ribbons of flat colour that run along the flow: a white core, wide magenta and crimson planes on either side, and thin slivers of cyan, blue, orange and gold at the outer edges, all curling as they climb. Across the middle of the square, banked nose-up to the right, a long black spacecraft is cut out of that light as pure silhouette, with no highlight, rim or outline of its own: a ribbed cylindrical hull, one swept and segmented radiator fin standing above an open triangulated truss boom, a flared nozzle bell at the tail, a single sphere slung beneath the belly, a cluster of slotted process drums and pipework along its spine, and a two-lipped ram scoop reaching forward at the nose. A broad soft pink funnel of plume material narrows into that scoop from the upper right, and out of the tail to the lower left runs one straight white lance of thrust in a magenta halo. 2026-06-17 Drinking the Plume

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A flat-plane poster in blue inks on pale ice-grey paper. Low and left, a long, almost black horizontal hull stands edge-on with a row of small pale portholes along it and a thin bright blue supply line beneath. Fourteen identical dark blue radiator fins stand up from the hull in a rank, each tipped with the same small diagonal chamfer, and their tops step down evenly from left to right. Between the fins, tall columns of pure white rise into the sky: widest and tallest at the left, where the leftmost column runs clean off the top edge, then narrowing and shortening step by step to the right, with every third column notched shorter. Shorter white columns fall the other way, down through the horizontal lines below the hull. 2026-06-16 The White Between the Fins

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A mid-toned green field printed entirely as coarse round halftone dots on one tilted screen. Scattered across it, bleeding off every edge, are two dozen circular bodies of widely different sizes; each is cut by a single horizontal line, dense pale green below it and bare dark green above, so each circle reads as a level gauge with a different amount left in it. Solid pale threads run between the circles, hair-thin at the outermost bodies and thickening step by step as they merge, until four heavy trunks converge on the upper right. There a large pale disc sits inside a ring of clean, completely dotless ground; it is the only smooth, razor-edged shape in the picture, and the trunks stop dead short of it. One trunk, the thickest, crosses the clean ring and continues into the disc as a round-ended slot of bare ground. No text, no insignia; purely procedural geometry, and nothing shown exists.

2026-06-15 The Only Smooth Thing

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. An achromatic line-work drawing on a near-black field: one colossal flywheel, drawn only in strokes and never filled, stands sunk to its hub in the dusty limb of a small moon, so wide that it is cut off by the left edge of the square. Its rim is a heavy triple hoop carrying a long run of bolt ticks; across the upper rim a graduated comb of fine white radial hairs thickens to a lens-shaped blaze where the wheel is running live. Inside, twenty-two concentric hoops, each broken once at a different clock position, and seven unequal spokes fill the disc; a machined chord-hatching crosses four uneven sectors. A double-railed drive shaft cuts the whole picture on one diagonal, passing through an open journal bearing at the hub, which carries no centre mark, and running out past the rim to a finned motor-generator canister; two hairline cable runs leave the canister for a vertical bus rule in the right margin, where three half-disc gauges of decreasing size show bank charge as bundles of arcs behind a single pointer. Five heavy anchor rods splay from the lower rim into the regolith onto stacked footing plates, and two much smaller sister wheels stand on the near horizon. 2026-06-14 The Moon Is the Bearing

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A flat-plane transit-diagram poster on a light warm paper field ruled with a faint square grid. The right-hand third of the sheet is a single flat rectangle of near-black night, divided from the sunlit left by one dead-straight vertical line on a grid column; the curved limb of the Moon crosses the lower half, pale grey where the sun is on it and dark beyond the line. A steel viaduct runs the full width without a bend, bleeding off both edges: eight tall pylons on the grid, a deck ruled in black on the day side and in white on the night side, and above it two conductors of constant weight - a deep oxblood return line and a bright red live line. A three-car train with red-lit windows rides the deck straight through the boundary, its leading car chamfered at forty-five degrees, two pantographs touching the red line. On the sunlit left, three ranks of dark angled solar panels on steel masts throw hard black forty-five-degree shadows across the regolith beside the pylons' own; red take-off stubs drop from them to a red ground bus that bleeds off the left edge, turns up a pylon and climbs to the live conductor. On the dark right, one red drop falls from the same conductor through a small switchgear box slung under the deck to a second red ground bus, which raises three low steel habitat blocks with white roof rules and red-lit interiors. 2026-06-13 Noon Feeds Midnight

At the lower left corner a small hard white star; a narrow gold wedge widens out of it across the field and ends on a large elliptical dish set low and left of centre, seen at an angle, its bowl shading from a warm lit crescent along one rim to deep blue-grey at the other. Three unequal struts cross the dish's mouth to a small pale receiver box just outside its edge. Behind the dish an open braced truss runs up and to the right, carrying two unequal rectangular radiator panels ruled with fins, one on each side and at different stations along the spine. 2026-06-12 The Sun, Printed Again

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark cyan picture of the floor of a lunar polar crater, rendered entirely in soft airbrushed tone with no outlines. The far crater rim arcs overhead against a black star field, carrying one thin thread of grazing sunlight that never falls past it. Standing on the floor below is a power station built only from spheres, cylinders and cones: a squat containment drum capped by a hemisphere at the left, a low turbine hall behind it, and two flared radiator towers of different sizes, the taller one rising past the rim into the sky and the smaller one set back to the right. In the gap between the containment and the big tower's foot a transfer duct glows warm cream-gold; it is the only light in the bowl, and it sits at ground level inside the machinery. Everything else is lit by it and cools to deep cyan as it goes away. Long foundation drums give each mass a footing on the ice. A pipe trunk walks out to the lower right and enters the ice through three unequal wellheads, each in its own pale frost bloom; a cable leaves to the lower left toward a small outpost module, tiny by comparison. Flat plates of ice lie scattered across the floor, and every one of them, and every part of the plant, throws a single hard-edged shadow straight away from the glowing duct, so the floor becomes a radiating star of shadow. Pasted into the black sky at the upper left is a hard-cut circular photograph of warm sunlit hills, tilted, with its own small sun and its own shadows falling the wrong way, lifted off the picture by a crisp drop shadow.
