An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square engraved collage sheet in four brown inks on warm bone stock, built as an irregular lattice of pasted plates, each one ruled at its own angle and pitch. Every value in the picture is made of drawn lines: there is no flat fill, no gradient and no photographic tone. Just left of centre a small disc of bare stock burns inside a dense cross ruled torus, and two narrow beams of bare stock leave it along a tilted axis, one running clear off the top of the sheet and one falling down to the left. Nothing is printed inside the star or its beams. On the right a vast segmented pickup ring, nine coil blocks with gear teeth on its outer edge and short vanes on its inner face, stands on two unequal braced legs and is cropped by the right edge of the frame; a boom reaches off its inner face toward the star and a family of heavy curved field lines runs from the star into the ring. A heavy double cable leaves the ring, drops diagonally to a long chamfered plinth on rows of buttresses, and feeds risers into four standing crucibles, no two of them alike, one with gear teeth bolted along its rim flange and one with corrugated fins clamped to its side. Above them a hopper house of three tapered bins feeds curved chutes down to a stepped distribution duct with four valve bodies of graded size, and short pipes drop from the duct into each vessel. The falling beam passes between two hatched throat walls into the open mouth of the fourth vessel, and a launder carries the result down to the right where five blocks sit on a rail, the nearest cross ruled almost black and each one lighter than the last. Pasted into the emptier plates are a cropped gear rim, a valve body and an exploded four layer catalogue view of one coil segment with leader lines.

2026-05-14 Where the Ink Stops

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A soft toned picture of an orbital observation lounge, built as overlapping translucent planes in sage, jade and chartreuse. One long diagonal crosses the square from the lower left to the upper right: the window sill. Above it a great canted wall of glass, ruled by grey mullions running on the opposite diagonal, looks out on the sunlit limb of Earth, much of which is quantised into large square cells; loose cells of mint, coral and violet drift free of the planet across the pane. A thin green airglow band and a strip of deep space lie above the limb, and at the top left a long cross ruled solar wing hangs outside the glass on a short mast, with a green feeder cable clipped down the hull to a box on the sill. The sill itself carries a glowing chartreuse heater strip with fin ticks, a slot diffuser sending warm air up the inside of the pane, and a cable tray whose bright green live conductor runs the length of the room, dropping through junction boxes to the heater. On the deck at the lower left a lit switch cabinet with three indicator lamps feeds a riser up to that tray, beside a squat louvred air handler and a floor return grille. In the ceiling soffit at the top right, eight lamps in a row throw soft cones of light down onto the deck. Faceless dark silhouettes sit on a long bench and on round pod seats, stand at the glass, and two larger figures stand in the near foreground, cut by the bottom edge of the frame.

2026-05-13 The Warm Side of the Glass

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark halftone poster of a fabrication ring in orbit around Mars, printed entirely in dots of one bone ink and one oxide red ink on black. Mars fills most of the frame as a deep brick red sphere, lit from a small sun cropped in the top right corner and falling away to blackness at the lower left. A long lattice girder curves across the lower third of the picture and passes in front of the planet, and a second slender arc of the same ring reappears from behind the planet at the upper right, which is what shows the deck to be a closed ring rather than a straight beam. Along the deck, left to right: stacks of delivered metal slabs, a low hauler carrying one slab, an open hearth holding a wide pool of glowing orange melt, a taller press with a vertical slit of the same glow and a billet leaving it on rollers, a crane rail carrying a slanted beam whose freshly cut end is still bright, a switch house with three insulators, and four large photovoltaic wings tilted towards the sun, with one thin bright bus line running the length of the deck from the wings back to the work. Three small suited figures stand on the deck, faceless and roughly a hundredth of the height of what is being built. Rising from the deck on three lattice cradle masts is the structure under construction: a rectangular truss raft eight cells wide and seven deep, its lower left cells already closed with grey plates, its frame erected two cells ahead of the plating so that the whole right side ends in a staircase of open bays, and six welding heads throwing short violent orange arcs along the diagonal build front. A small carrier stands off below the deck with the next bundle of slabs. All tone is halftone dots; the only unbroken marks are the drawn contour lines.

2026-05-12 Slab In, Truss Out

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dimensional, fully rendered view down the open deck of a protein works in orbit, lit by one low sun raking across it at a shallow angle, so that everything in the picture throws a shadow more than four times its own height. The palette is terracotta, ochre, burnt sienna and bone, against a deep blue black sky with sparse stars, and the only cool colour is the photovoltaic array. In the immediate foreground, standing in the sun, a metal packing table carries seven pale oval loaves in two rows, with a few cut slices propped on edge beside them. Behind it a conveyor of dark grating carries a line of loaves away to the left, past an upright cooling trolley of eight shelves loaded with more loaves, to a low press house with a wide funnel shaped extruder hopper on its roof. Along the right hand side of the deck stands a row of five sealed fermenter vats: tall cylinders with domed tops and conical bottoms on short legs, each with a dark cooling jacket round its waist, a ladder up its flank, narrow sight glasses glowing faintly with pale broth, a gooseneck vapour pipe and a junction box fed by conduit. Behind the vats runs a coursed masonry arcade of arched bays whose openings give straight onto black space, with a service gantry, handrails and a solid stair down to the deck. A second arcade closes the plaza in the distance, its round headed arches showing the dark sky through them. Along the left edge a third arcade, carried between square capped freight pylons, throws long bars of shadow across the terracotta deck plates. High above the works, canted towards the sun on a trussed mast, is a large deep blue photovoltaic wing ruled by raised battens into a grid of cells, with a smaller second bay of the same wing inboard of it and pale bracing struts running back from it towards the works.

2026-05-11 The Hour of the Loaves

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A Martian plain at twilight under a violet sky combed with streaks of dust laden air that curve down towards the right. Three bell mouthed intake ducts of unequal size stand in a rising diagonal line, their openings turned up into the wind, each duct sweeping down into a small lit compressor house at ground level. Beside them a long horizontal drum lies on saddles with warm light spilling from underneath it. Running down towards the viewer at the left, three upright storage vessels of increasing size share one rounded silhouette: each has a flared base skirt, a narrow level window glowing amber or pale blue, a coloured band near its crown, and pale frost climbing the wall only as high as the liquid inside, so the nearest and largest vessel is barely filled while the furthest is nearly full. A suited figure the height of a valve stands at the foot of the middle vessel. In the right foreground seven hand sized canisters of the same design stand on a low shelf, and a rank of tilted solar panels catches the low sun on the far skyline.

2026-05-10 Thin Air, Decanted

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A warm-ash photomontage on a laid oatmeal sheet, every fragment cut with a hard edge, a bright paper lip along its sunward side and its own drop shadow. Left of centre a tall leaning mast carries four broad finned radiator panels, each one blazing white where it meets the mast and fading to near black at its outer tip; white heat streams off the panel tips up and to the left. A smaller rank of panels stands on an outrigger below it and a third, smaller unit walks ahead at the left edge. A bright pipe runs along the ground linking the three, brightest at the right where it leaves a dark stepped machine block, with a darker return line beneath it. The block carries a riveted strap, a large fanned gauge sector and a duct, and its right hand edge is caught by a hard white light. The machines stand on jointed legs with flat pads, one pad lifted clear of the ground. Two suited figures stand in the foreground for scale. On the right a blazing wedge of sunrise cuts diagonally across the plain, footpads and two wheel ruts lead back into it, and loose montage fragments, offcut plates, rivet strips, a caliper jaw and a tick scale, float across the sheet.

2026-05-09 Outwalking the Morning

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square plate printed in two inks, magenta and dark plum, on warm near white paper, where every tone is made only by the thickness of one continuous family of flowing contour lines. Low and left of centre stands a long simulation hall shown in cutaway: three tall equipment cabinets on the left of a wide aisle and seven shorter ones on the right, each cabinet a dark flat shape carrying a stack of magenta slot bars, all of them standing on a magenta bus duct that runs the length of the floor. In the aisle between the two unequal ranks, a low magenta channel in the floor is the brightest source in the picture, and the light it throws leaves the hall as a tall wedge of bare unprinted paper rising through a gap in the roof deck. Out of that gap the model itself pours upward as about forty nested undulating magenta contours, packed tight at the aperture and opening wider and fainter as they climb, every sixth one struck heavier, until they fade to open paper well short of the frame. High on the left, two canted solar panels ruled with pale cell lines sit on a braced lattice tower, with a magenta conductor sagging down the tower into a switch house on the deck and a feeder dropping through into the hall. On the right, a magenta duct carries heat out of the hall's far end to a spine holding seven canted radiator fins of unequal length, each fin glowing magenta at its root.

2026-05-08 The Grain of the Model

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A flat, hard edged picture in ochre, umber and bone on a mid brown field, built on one tilted grid running from the lower left corner to the upper right. A long rail crosses the frame on that diagonal and nine boxy storage banks stand ranked along it, each drawn as a staircase of stacked courses with pale oblique tops. The five banks at the lower left are filled almost to their caps with saturated gold, and a small bone bar juts out beside each one at the height of its fill. The sixth bank is gold only to about half its height. A hard white staircase of light, flanked by amber and burnt orange staircases of decreasing width, leaves the top of that sixth bank and climbs away to the upper left in stepped treads and risers, ending against the lit underside of a large stepped dark structure cropped by the top edge. Past the sixth bank the rail and the banks jump out of alignment in whole step increments, the gaps between banks widen from narrow to very wide, and the last three banks are almost entirely dark with only a thin gold sliver left at their bases. Below the rail a second bus line runs parallel and about twenty five thin bright feeders rise from it into the rail, with two dark ruled panels cropped by the bottom left corner. A large planet limb fills the lower right, a dark brown body with olive continents and a broad pale lit edge. The whole picture is doubled twice by fainter offset copies of the machinery running off the top of the frame, and three large translucent sheets, one of them square to the frame rather than to the tilted grid, lie across everything. Nothing shown exists.

2026-05-07 The Ring Lets Go

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A pale blue engraved sky surrounds a cloud-covered world viewed off centre, with one enormous dark metallic ring sweeping from the lower left foreground around the planet and away behind its right limb. Fine lozenge lattice, fluted collars and paired cyan conductors wrap around the ring and compress with distance. A white switchgear house clamps the nearest section at lower right, where the live bus flares blue. Four narrow tether spurs run inward from bright junctions toward the planet, and three unequal sail-like panels stand on the far arc. The globe is hatched in latitude-like bands and blue cloud fields, and every ornament follows the perspective of the curved surface carrying it.

2026-05-06 One Iron Artery

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square picture printed entirely in visible halftone dots on a slate blue ground. A shaft of light enters at the upper left corner as a stack of concentric pale wavefront arcs and narrows onto a large circular receiving dish left of centre, which burns white along the rim the light strikes, with a short vermilion sliver at the hottest point. The dish is built of unequal concentric colour bands in deep and bright cyan with a white band, the band sequence shifted where a diameter splits it, a dark off centre feed hub, rows of dark circular receiving modules curving across its face, a magenta crescent in its shadow, and a broken dark mounting hoop around it. A huge pale green blue planet with narrow tilted ring arcs fills the right and lower right of the frame. From the dish, curved runs made of small beads of light rather than drawn lines carry power out to four smaller banded discs and to about thirty small dishes scattered across the whole field, lit and crescent bright where they stand against space, dark silhouettes with one bright limb where they cross the planet's face, a few carrying small orange cores and three left unlit. No text appears anywhere.

2026-05-05 Noon, Forwarded

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A pale blue-grey square printed entirely in halftone dots, the screen radiating from one point below the frame so the rows of dots curve and every machine leans on its own local vertical. The ground is the close, visibly curved surface of a small moon, its limb crossing the upper third. A long dark gantry arc spans the yard carrying two trolleys; one lowers a squat cylindrical core drum on a cable toward the stepped base waiting to take it. Along one arc below the gantry stand three copies of the same machine at different stages of assembly: a wide stepped shield block on a cradle, the same block with its core drum seated on top, and a third with a conversion skid and crated radiator panels at its flank, each with a slim lattice service tower beside it. Further right a finished unit stands cold with two grey radiator panels spread. In the near right foreground the same unit again, larger, stands on a test stand: its core band burns bright blue inside a soft blue halo, its two unequal radiator wings are ruled in bright blue dots that thin from root to tip, and an instrument mast rises above it. A heavy blue cable leaves its skid, sweeps along the apron across the bottom of the plate and ends in a rack of blue lit resistor tubes at the left. Two small suited figures stand on the apron for scale and an empty flat transporter runs back up the rails, which fan out from the bottom edge to every bay. High at the upper left a small tug climbs away with a finished unit slung beneath it.

2026-05-04 The Proving Yard

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A luminous pale violet square crossed by wide lanes of blanched lilac light that all run one way, down and to the right. One enormous collector curtain cuts the frame on the opposite diagonal, entering at the lower left and leaving at the upper right, far too long to fit: both of its ends are cut off by the edges of the picture. The curtain is a ruled field of deep violet photovoltaic plates six rows deep, each plate divided into a fine grid of cells and separated from its neighbours by a dark aubergine lattice of substrate. Broad bands of brighter lilac sweep across the plates where the lanes of sunlight land on them, and the plates between those bands stay a far deeper violet. A near black boom runs the whole length of the curtain's sunward edge, tipped by a hairline of pale violet white where the sun strikes it, with short standoff struts spaced along it. Along the shaded edge runs a collecting trunk whose glowing core brightens from cool violet at the ends to hot magenta violet as it nears a blocky dark junction mass set about two thirds of the way along, one face of which is bright magenta. From that junction a saturated violet beam with a pale core and a row of small pale lozenges inside it runs down and to the right to a small blue violet planet near the lower right corner. Beyond the curtain the lanes of sunlight carry on, but shifted sideways along the curtain's own axis, so the planes of light read as having passed through the body and come out displaced, and two fainter violet echoes of the whole curtain lie further along in the same direction. Two much smaller segments of the same collector array float far off in the upper left, and two tiny dark service craft with single magenta lamps give the scale. No text, no lettering, no insignia. Nothing shown here exists.
