All images

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A pale technical plate drawn in fine graphite line work with one warm orange ink on ivory paper, most of the sheet left empty. Ten dish antennas of different sizes stand scattered across a frost plain below a high horizon, each bowl carried on a yoke and column with a small feed box on a tripod above it. One orange cable crosses the whole plate as a long wave: it rises into a tall crest on the left, dives out of sight behind a low building at the centre, rises again into a smaller crest on the right, and runs off the right edge, with small cleats ticking along it. Short orange feeders run from every antenna down to that one cable. At the left end the cable begins at a compact reactor with a shadow shield and two hatched radiator wings. The building at the centre is drawn with its front wall opened, showing seven equipment cabinets with lit orange slots standing on a glowing floor, and a hot orange header leaves the wall, drops past a pump box and feeds a bank of seven canted radiator panels in the lower right, hatched hot at their roots and cool at their tips. A cropped limb of Neptune with two faint bands stands low in the sky at the upper right.

2026-04-26 The Cable Draws What It Hears

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark, banded picture in magenta, violet and pale ice blue, built as horizontal layers with the ground cut away so the buried part is visible. One saturated magenta stripe runs from the top of the frame straight down the left side, turns along the bottom, and forms the power feed. On the horizon sits a long, low industrial block with five pale capped cylinders standing across its face and a rank of narrow finned stacks rising above it, flushed dull rose at their roots. A pale cyan pipe runs the full width of the picture just below the horizon and drops narrow risers into seven buried spherical vessels of very different sizes, each glowing cold and each showing a different bright fill line across it, the leftmost and rightmost cut off by the frame. The ground itself is two toned: pale lit ice on the left, near black on the right, meeting on a hard vertical edge, with three dull rose pipes lying on the dark side. A second magenta line leaves the block to the right on short pylons and ends at a small dark structure with a row of warm orange windows. A dim ringed planet is cropped by the top right corner. Everything except the machinery is continuous graded colour. Nothing shown exists.

2026-04-25 The Bank of Cold

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. Continuous-tone illustration on a pale rose ice field: a cross section straight down through an ice shell, with a narrow band of black star sky along the top, kilometres of layered and bubbled ice below it, and cold blue water across the bottom. A single glowing red cable, one constant thickness from end to end, runs the whole depth of the picture and makes every piece of equipment on the way. At the surface, left of centre, a low grey shed and an open frame hold a drum with the cable wound in close turns across it; a small suited figure stands on the ice nearby, only a few pixels tall, giving the scale. The cable leaves the top of the drum, drops into a bore, and works down the shell in a loose zigzag: it takes a round turn and a half hitch around each of four short posts frozen into the ice, it hangs in three loose drifting hanks of spare cable, it winds into two tight bright helices that glow orange inside melted pockets, and at one point it doubles back on itself and binds the pair with a close spiral of its own turns to make a joint. It passes through a dark collar at the base of the shell, sags slack across the water, coils once more, and ends as a flattened glowing element on the roof of a dark, low work vehicle held under the ice ceiling, cutting a bright melted dimple up into the ice above it. Nothing else in the picture is red. No text, no insignia, no lettering; nothing shown exists.

2026-04-24 One Wire All the Way Down

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A photogram style print on laid pale-wheat stock, drawn only in line: every straight mark is a ray running out from one point, and every curve is an arc struck about that same point or about Saturn, whose centre lies far below the bottom of the frame. Saturn's rings fill the whole field as hundreds of concentric arcs in pale gold, deep amber and graphite, banded light and dark, and crossing the picture is a clear empty lane held between two heavy black walls: the gap. Standing in that lane, a little left of centre, is the repeater. A deep dish of ruled arcs and radial ribs opens back along the line the beam arrives on; at the machine's centre is a small blank core burnt to the pale-wheat stock tone where the beam is caught and turned; a lopsided dark keel of dense ribs hangs under it on the Saturn side; a comb of emitter tines fans out on the other; a trussed mast leans up out of the ring plane and ends in a small open platform; and a short spiral of wire is opened out behind the dish. The beam itself enters from beyond the left edge as a broad amber band with a white over exposed line burning down its middle, passes through the machine, and leaves to the right at a visibly different angle, ruled across with curved wavefronts, into a small second station drawn at the right edge of the frame. Every particle in the rings prints its own short shadow as a tick pointing away from the machine. On the Saturn side a wedge of ring material has reversed tone into a dark hatched lune edged by bare white contour lines; on the opposite side the print has burnt clean out to pale-wheat printed light, so the mast stands against nothing. No text, no insignia. Nothing shown here exists.

2026-04-23 Where the Beam Bends

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A cutaway section drawn entirely in line work, in three inks only: a warm mid grey ground, dark graphite lines, and one orange. The ice surface crosses the frame about two fifths of the way down, hatched with short ticks and dipping into two shallow craters. Above it stands a small settlement: a low barrel vault module on the left, a mast with one crossarm and two guy lines, a tiny wheeled vehicle for scale, a tall settlement hall drawn open in section with three floors, two stairs and a heap of regolith shielding ticked in over its flat roof, and on the right three radiator fins of unequal height and lean, ruled with fine cross ribs, standing on a common header. A cropped disc of Jupiter, ruled with a few horizontal bands, fills the upper right corner, and the rest of the sky is empty except for scattered star dots. Below the surface the crust is drawn as a family of contour lines that lie flat far away and arch into a tall dome over the lower left, crowding where the gradient is steepest and cut by three thin faults; a cross hatched band of rock closes the bottom of the frame. At the foot of that dome, inside an irregular excavated chamber, lies the source: a long horizontal containment drum with a hemispherical cap, its interior ruled in dense orange lines and crossed by one orange midplane line, with six control rods of unequal length hung from a drive beam carried on a single pier, and three unequal piers under its floor slab. An orange outlet duct leaves the cap, turns, and climbs a bored shaft that leans to the right as it rises, its left wall carrying a ladder, its bore carrying three orange trunk lines of unequal weight. At the surface those lines meet a short manifold bar and split into a shallow utilidor that runs left to the module, up into the two lit decks of the hall, and right to the hot inlet edge of each radiator fin. Every orange mark in the picture is part of that one unbroken path; nothing else in the frame is orange. No text, no insignia. Nothing shown here exists.

2026-04-22 The Only Fire on Callisto

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark violet field built entirely from flat overlapping planes, with no gradients, no outlines and no curves anywhere. In the upper left corner a small white nine sided plate stands for the sun, ringed by a stepped, off centre flare of paler violet plates, and a shallow rake of parallel pale bands crosses the whole picture from it. Strung along one dominant diagonal that runs from that corner down to the right are eighteen translucent film sheets, every one the same quadrilateral at the same tilt and only rescaled, small and crowded near the sun and very large in the foreground, where two of them run off the frame edges entirely. Each sheet carries a bright pale rim along its sunward edge, a hard black stiffening spar along its far edge, and a small dark bus box on the end of that spar. Where sheets cross, the violet tint accumulates and the overlap is the only depth cue in the frame. From sixteen of those bus boxes, tapered pale beams converge on a single point right of centre and low, piling into a near white cone at a small opaque collector hub with two heat rejection fins and a bright absorber plate turned square to the incoming light. From that hub one hard bright line runs down and across to the lower left, where a low works stands: a long deck, two towers, a stepped roof, a receiving absorber plate on a mast, and eight small amber windows, the only warm colour in the picture. In the upper right hangs Saturn, its globe a faceted polygon crossed by flat bands and a dark ring shadow, its rings drawn as opened elliptical annuli of pale violet passing behind the globe on one side and in front of it on the other. Small square star grains are scattered across the field. No text, no insignia, no lettering of any kind. Nothing shown here exists.

2026-04-21 A Ninetieth of a Sun

An artistic imagining, fully speculative and not real hardware: a high key square plate printed in warm bone and putty greys, on which the galaxy's central black hole is drawn inverted, as a torn black disc in the upper right with a single pale crescent of open ground at its rim and a wide, foreshortened grey disc of orbiting matter sweeping across it on the picture's diagonal. The pale field is a laid tint rather than blank stock, brightest around the well and grading gently deeper into the far lower left corner. Reaching in from the lower left is a colossal tapering girder boom, black at its far end, built of two chords and a zigzag of bracing with service modules riding it; at its tip a wide funnel scoop opens toward the hole, and one dark ribbon of matter is lifted off the rim of the shadow into the funnel's mouth. At the foot of the boom sits a heavy conversion hall, canted across the boom's axis, with a stack of thin radiator plates hanging from a header pipe on one flank and rounded accumulator tanks and small service bays on the other. From the hall one trunk line runs down and to the right, carrying three switchgear stations with fin stacks, growing steadily paler as it goes, and lands in a distant receiving yard of low slabs and a leaning mast before a last thin thread fades off the edge of the sheet. Two much smaller sister taps stand far around the same disc on its opposite side, and faint dark specks stand in for the crowded stars of the core. No text appears in the image.

2026-04-20 One Dip of Ink

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark, warm orange interior view down the length of a pressurised lunar sports hall, rendered entirely in continuous tone. The ceiling is a deep perspective grid of forty lamp bays, each bay a set of five nested rectangles running from a near black outer frame through burnt orange and signal orange to an amber and warm white core, the inner rectangles pushed off centre toward the viewer, and the nesting proportions cycling from bay to bay so no two neighbours match. Bare busbar runs and short droppers thread between the bay columns and carry back to risers on the left wall. Below, the court is the same nested rectangle figure laid flat in four bands of red brown, tan and dark paint, and the lamp pools sweep across it so a single paint tone runs from hot to nearly black inside one rectangle. Nine faceless suited figures are silhouetted against the light in a jump sequence, crouched, rising, hanging at apex with arms spread, and descending, each a long way above its own soft shadow, with one ball floating high near the far wall. A raked gallery on the right holds a dark blurred crowd. Along the base of the left wall stand four switchgear cabinets with small amber indicator windows and a continuous glowing red radiant heater strip, with a trunk duct running the length of the wall near the ceiling. On the end wall a nested rectangle goal target repeats the lamp bay colours on cold dark paint, and a long window looks out on a pale regolith plain carrying two dark solar arrays and a line on masts running back toward the hall, a small blue crescent of Earth low in the black sky above it. Purely procedural geometry and tone; no text, no insignia, and nothing shown exists.

2026-04-19 Six Seconds of Air

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A dark lunar mare floor printed entirely in halftone dots, scattered with smelting cells at four sizes, one of them very large and cut close by the frame. Each cell is a flat frontal vessel with its working face cut away: a charge hopper heaped with grey rock leans above it, a comb of pale electrodes hangs from the lid into a body of glowing orange melt, a band of bright metal lies pooled under the melt, and a spout on the right pours a thin stream into a row of ingot moulds. Stockpiles of pale bars are stacked in narrowing courses nearby, small wagons of feedstock stand about, and photovoltaic wings with grids of cyan cells feed every cell lid through orthogonal cyan power runs threading the whole field.

2026-04-18 Rock Into Metal

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square print on pale stock, drawn in scratchy broken ink strokes over blue halftone dot screens that sit slightly out of register with the drawing. The scene is the inside of a rounded chamber cut into rock: a crosshatched rock ceiling arches across the top of the frame and down both sides, and a narrow bored shaft enters at the top left, carrying one vermillion cable down to a small vermillion switchboard bolted under the crown. A horizontal lamp gantry hangs from the ceiling high and left of centre, slung with six angled luminaires whose mouths are left as bare paper with a hot filament line across each. From them a fan of pale light cones spreads down and outward across the chamber. Five curved growing terraces stand in concentric ranks around the lamps, each a shelf with a ribbed substrate skirt hung beneath it, and each rank carries a row of mushrooms whose domed caps and gill ticks face inward, so every stalk in the vault leans toward the lamps. The mushrooms grow larger toward the front of the frame, where several reach the height of a person. Two vermillion service risers run outward from the lamp hub across the terraces, tapping each rank at a small junction box, and short vermillion dashes run along the inner rails as heating elements; a thin hoop of misting nozzles crosses the middle distance with faint plumes. Four faceless suited workers are at work in silhouette: one at the lower left holding a pale tray of cut caps, one at the centre reaching up to a cap, one small figure on the far right, and one pushing a cart near the lamps. Stacked crates of cut mushrooms sit at the front. No text, no insignia, no lettering. Nothing shown here exists.

2026-04-17 The Sun We Pay For

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square plate in near neutral greys and warm whites, dark throughout, with a fine ruled grid printed on top of the whole picture, over the sky and the machinery alike. A large soft disc of Mars fills the upper part of the frame and passes behind the plant. In the centre stand three tall vertical retorts, each a domed cylinder narrowing to a discharge cone and a small draw off chute. Horizontal rules cut each retort into three stacked hearths, giving nine chambers in all, and every chamber holds a different depth of glowing charge, from a nearly full white hot bed to a low dull one, so the bank reads as one batch caught at nine different hours. A three by three arrangement of column and row rules is set around the vessels like a table, and those rules run on past the machinery to the edges of the plate. Across the top a single bright horizontal line runs the width of the plant as a power bus, fed from the left by a mast; three vertical risers drop from it and end in small hard points of light where they tap the left flank of each hearth. Above the retorts a wide horizontal duct is the vapour collection header, and it turns down the right hand side to a large pale sphere with a smaller sphere below it, both holding cryogen. From the spheres a live arm reaches out to a tanker standing on a pad at the bottom right, drawn as a cone on a squat body inside a service gantry. At the left a stepped bench cut descends toward the viewer with a cutting machine on its floor throwing a hard white light, a diagonal ducted bridge carries the cut rock up to a tall lift shaft, and four tilted collector panels stand on the ridge above. Dust rises from the working face and drifts across the plate, vapour leaves the head of the bank, and a thin plume stands off a relief stack at the top right. No text, no lettering, no insignia. Nothing shown here exists.

2026-04-16 Nine Kilns Under Mars

An artistic imagining, not real hardware. A square plate in one green, painted as modelled tubes on a pale sage sky and a pale ash plain. A single machine crosses the whole picture on a rising diagonal from the lower left corner to the upper right. At the low end, half cut by the frame, stands a dark bottle green drum, the coldest thing in the picture, banded with two collars and tapped by a pair of short pipes with disc feet. A dark line leaves it and enters a cascade of four cylinders laid along the climb, each one wider than the one before it and each a step paler, ringed at both ends and belted with three thin collars. Two upright cans stand out of the cascade on the perpendicular axis, each capped with a small saturated green disc. A heavy conduit runs down and to the right from the cascade to a second drum standing clear on the plain, ringed four times and capped with its own bright green disc. A slim dark return pipe runs the full length of the machine below it and drops back into the cold drum, tied up to the cascade by three short risers, and two splayed tubular struts with round feet hold the whole climb off the ground. A short ladder of rails and rungs is fixed to the third stage. Past the last stage the machine narrows through a pale neck into a threaded stack of seven near white elliptical plates of unequal span, hot enough to glow, which runs off the top right corner and closes on a green end cap. A broad pale plume leans up and to the left across the sky above the plates. Small boulders and long low swells lie on the plain, and far off at the left, small and hazed almost into the air, a second machine of the same design stands on the horizon.
